Richmond Hill Liberty, Champions of the NYCA U23 T20 Independence Cup.

The Richmond Hill Liberty Under 23 squad, in an all-round team effort, is crowned as the well-deserved champions of the New York Cricket Academy U23 T20 Independence Cup. Following three days of cricket and one, washed-out, rescheduled final the grand finale was played on Monday, July 17th when #TheBlueNation boys secured The Cup with a 6-wicket win over Royal Bengals.

Mahendra Parsaram led the bowling with 2 wickets for 21 runs in his 3 overs. Alex Algoo led the batting with an inning-high 29. Skipper Tamesh Persaud turned in an all-round performance with two wickets and an unbeaten 20 to bring home the win.

Day 4, FINAL: RHL vs Royal Bengals

In the final of the New York U23 T20 Independence Cup, Richmond Hill Liberty emerged victorious by 6 wickets against Royal Bengals on July 17, 2023.

Royal Bengals won the toss and elected to bat first. Safwan Ahmed played a crucial innings, scoring 48 runs off 38 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six. However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals as the Richmond Hill Liberty bowlers struck at crucial moments. Tamesh Persaud and Mahendra Parsaram were the pick of the bowlers, picking up 2 wickets each. Shiva Sankar, Raymond Ramrattan, and Brandon Pydana also contributed with important wickets.

Royal Bengals managed to post a total of 118 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 17 overs. They were well supported by the extras, with 5 wides and 2 byes contributing to the score.

Chasing a target of 119 runs, Brandon Pydana got Richmond Hill Liberty off to a flying start with a quickfire 22 runs off 12 balls, including 1 four and 2 sixes. Alex Algoo and Surendra Ramcharitar continued the momentum with their aggressive batting, scoring 29 runs off 15 balls and 24 runs off 22 balls respectively. Raymond Ramrattan and Tamesh Persaud also played crucial innings to guide Richmond Hill Liberty to victory.

Among the Royal Bengals bowlers, Anamul Haque Naeem and Jabed Arafat picked up a wicket each. Ridwan Sultan and Sultan Mahmud also contributed with a wicket each. However, their efforts were not enough to defend the target.

Richmond Hill Liberty reached the target of 119 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in just 14.1 overs. The extras played a significant role in the chase, with 6 wides and 2 leg byes adding to the score.

Skipper Tamesh Persaud’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award for his 20 runs with the bat and 2 wickets with the ball. With this victory, Richmond Hill Liberty have crowned champions of the New York U23 T20 Independence Cup.

It was a thrilling final with both teams putting up a fight. Richmond Hill Liberty’s disciplined bowling performance and aggressive batting approach proved to be the difference. They remained calm under pressure and achieved the target comfortably, sealing their victory and lifting the trophy.

The New York U23 T20 Independence Cup provided an excellent platform for young talent to showcase their skills, and this final was a fitting conclusion to the tournament.
