RHL U23 Champions Part 3: Pydana Star in Exciting Semi-Final Win after Jagdeo Bag 3-Wickets in Loss

Brandon Pydana (left) led the team’s semi-final showing on day 3. He was supported with the bat by Surendra Ramcharitar (2nd, left). Kapeshwar Jagdeo (2nd, right) bagged his best figures in the tournament in the morning game. Raymond Ramratan (right) scored 41 in the morning and bowled 3 miserly overs in the semi-final.

On day-3 of the New York Cricket Academy Under 23 T20, Richmond Hill Liberty set out on another double-header. The first match had point table ranking implications to determine RHL’s opposition in the semi-final. Kapeshwar Jagdeo’s 3-wicket haul and Raymond Ramrattan’s 41 were the highlights of the morning game. Despite a loss, RHL finished the tournament on top of the points table.

Brandon Pydana 45 runs of 22 balls and 4 wickets then led RHL in a tense semi-final. He was well supported with the bat by Surendra Ramcharitar 42 runs off 20 balls and with the ball by Raymond Ramrattan 3 overs for 13 runs with 1 wicket.

Day 3, Game 1 – RHL vs Royal Bengals
In the New York U23 T20 Independence Cup match between Richmond Hill Liberty and Royal Bengals, Royal Bengals emerged victorious by 5 wickets on July 3, 2023.

Richmond Hill Liberty won the toss and elected to bat first. However, their innings got off to a disastrous start as Alex Algoo was dismissed for a golden duck. Varun Mangla (16) and Surendra Ramcharitar (16) tried to stabilize the innings, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Raymond Ramrattan played a fantastic knock of 41 runs off 28 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes, to give his team a respectable total of 132 runs in their 20 overs.

For Royal Bengals, Ridwan Sultan was the standout bowler, picking up 3 wickets for 31 runs. Anamul Haque Naeem and Sultan Mahmud also contributed with crucial wickets. Their disciplined bowling performance restricted Richmond Hill Liberty from posting a challenging total.

Chasing a target of 133 runs, Royal Bengals started steadily but lost wickets at regular intervals. Imran Uddin (lebu) was the star of the innings, scoring a brilliant 51 runs off 38 balls, including 3 fours and 4 sixes. His aggressive batting ensured that Royal Bengals maintained the required run rate. Sultan Mahmud also played a crucial innings, scoring 30 runs off 20 balls.

Richmond Hill Liberty bowlers tried their best to defend the target, with Kapeshwar Jagdeo being the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets. Tamesh Persaud also contributed with a wicket. However, Royal Bengals’ batsmen held their nerves and achieved the target with 20 balls to spare, finishing at 133 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Imran Uddin (lebu) was named the Player of the Match for his match-winning innings. Richmond Hill Liberty fought hard, but their efforts fell short as Royal Bengals emerged victorious by 5 wickets.

The win secured the top spot on the points table for Richmond Hill Liberty after the round-robin stage with a match-up against the #4 ranked MMZ/NYCA.

Day 3, Semi-Final: RHL vs MMZ/NYCA

In the semi-final of the New York U23 T20 Independence Cup, Richmond Hill Liberty emerged victorious by 19 runs against MMZ/NYCA on July 3, 2023.

Richmond Hill Liberty won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they lost an early wicket as Alex Algoo was dismissed for just 12 runs. Brandon Pydana then played a superb innings, scoring 45 runs off 22 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six. Surendra Ramcharitar also contributed with a quickfire 42 runs off just 20 balls, hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes. Tamesh Persaud (29) and Shiva Sankar (11) provided valuable contributions to help Richmond Hill Liberty reach a competitive total of 161 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 15 overs.

Among the bowlers, Emanuel Seecharran was the most successful, picking up 2 wickets for MMZ/NYCA. He was well supported by R. Deonarine, Ansaar Yasim, and Marvan Prashad, who all chipped in with crucial wickets.

Chasing a target of 162 runs, MMZ/NYCA started well with Ameer Singh leading the charge. He played a brilliant innings, scoring 61 runs off 38 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes. However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and the required run rate kept increasing. Kevin Christian also played a fine innings of 40 runs off 23 balls.

Brandon Pydana was the pick of the bowlers for Richmond Hill Liberty, taking 4 wickets for 18 runs in his 3 overs. Tamesh Persaud, Raymond Ramrattan, and Mahendra Parsaram also contributed with crucial wickets.

Despite some resistance from MMZ/NYCA, Richmond Hill Liberty’s bowlers managed to restrict them to 142 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 15 overs, falling 19 runs short of the target.

Brandon Pydana’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award for his 45 runs with the bat and 4 wickets with the ball. With this victory, Richmond Hill Liberty secured their place in the final of the New York U23 T20 Independence Cup.

It was an intense and closely contested match, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination. Ultimately, Richmond Hill Liberty’s batting prowess and disciplined bowling performance proved to be the difference, helping them advance to the final stage of the tournament.
