RHL U23 Champions Part 2: Fifties for Pydana, Ramcharitar & Ramrattan. Sankar & Persaud Wreak Havoc With Ball

Brandon Pydana (left) and Surendra Ramcharitar (2nd left) scored 62 each in game 1 of day 2, Raymond Ramrattan (center) scored 68 in game two and picked up 2 wickets in game 2. On day-2 of the New York Cricket Academy Under 23 T20, Richmond Hill Liberty set out on a double-header. Brandon Pydana, Surendra Ramcharitar, and Raymond Ramrattan led the batting for the day with half-centuries. Skipper Tamesh Persaud and Shiva Sankar wreak havoc with the ball as the RHL team goes undefeated. (Check out Part 1 of the series here.)

Day 2, Game 1 RHL vs Queens United Academy.

In the New York U23 T20 Independence Cup match between Richmond Hill Liberty and Queens United Academy, Richmond Hill Liberty emerged victorious by 46 runs on July 2, 2023.

Richmond Hill Liberty won the toss and opted to bat first. Alex Algoo got them off to a solid start, scoring 28 runs off 18 balls. Brandon Pydana (62) and Surendra Ramcharitar (62) then took charge, forming a crucial partnership that propelled Richmond Hill Liberty’s innings. Their aggressive strokeplay and boundary-hitting helped Richmond Hill Liberty post a competitive total of 204 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

For Queens United Academy, Justin Mingo, Rahi B, and Harsha Bharadwaj picked up a wicket each, but they couldn’t contain the run flow as Richmond Hill Liberty’s batsmen dominated the bowling attack.

Chasing a target of 205 runs, Queens United Academy lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to build substantial partnerships. Shaswat Ganisshan was the lone standout with a well-played knock of 52 runs. However, the rest of the batsmen failed to provide significant contributions as Richmond Hill Liberty’s bowlers kept taking wickets at crucial stages.

Tamesh Persaud was the pick of the bowlers for Richmond Hill Liberty, claiming 3 wickets, while Bhumeshwar Naraine and Mahendra Parsaram took 2 wickets each. With disciplined bowling and tight fielding, Richmond Hill Liberty restricted Queens United Academy to 158 runs, sealing a convincing victory.

Brandon Pydana’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award for his valuable contributions with the bat and in the field. Richmond Hill Liberty showcased a dominant display of batting and bowling, securing a comfortable win over Queens United Academy in the tournament.

Day 2, Game 2 RHL vs Majestic CC U23

In the New York U23 T20 Independence Cup match between Richmond Hill Liberty and Majestic, Richmond Hill Liberty emerged victorious by 82 runs on July 2, 2023.

Richmond Hill Liberty won the toss and elected to bat first. Alex Algoo got them off to a quick start, scoring 10 runs off 7 balls. Brandon Pydana (25) and Surendra Ramcharitar (18) also contributed valuable runs. However, it was Raymond Ramrattan’s explosive innings of 68 runs off just 40 balls, including 3 fours and 6 sixes, that powered Richmond Hill Liberty to a strong total of 170 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

For Majestic, Ansar Khan was the standout bowler, picking up an impressive 5 wickets for 30 runs. Gaurav Ramesh and Jaden Norville also chipped in with 2 wickets each. Their efforts restricted Richmond Hill Liberty from posting an even more daunting total.

Chasing a target of 171 runs, Majestic struggled right from the start. The Richmond Hill Liberty bowlers were in top form, dismantling the Majestic batting lineup. Shiva Sankar was the pick of the bowlers, claiming the top three Majestic batsmen for naught each and restricting the opposition to 4 runs for 3 wickets after his opening over. Sankar’s opening partner Kapeshwar Jagdeo joined the party with another wicket to make it 9 runs for 4 wickets after 2 overs. Tamesh Persaud took 3 wickets as well. Raymond Ramrattan and Bhumeshwar Naraine also contributed with crucial wickets.

Majestic lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to build any substantial partnerships. Ansar Khan top-scored with 26 runs, but it was not enough to counter Richmond Hill Liberty’s dominant bowling performance. Majestic was bowled out for just 88 runs in 15.1 overs, falling short by 82 runs.

Richmond Hill Liberty’s disciplined bowling attack, combined with their strong batting display, earned them a comprehensive victory. Raymond Ramrattan’s explosive innings and the bowling efforts of Shiva Sankar and Tamesh Persaud played a crucial role in their triumph.

Raymond Ramrattan was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding batting performance, which set the foundation for Richmond Hill Liberty’s victory. With this win, Richmond Hill Liberty showcased its dominance in the New York U23 T20 Independence Cup and continued its impressive run in the tournament.
