Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club (RHLCC) bounced back in style with a commanding 5-wicket victory over Imperial Cricket Club in their Commonwealth Cricket League Division 1 Afternoon clash at The Cage. Backed by an incredibly disciplined bowling performance and a blistering half-century from opening batsman Christopher Blucher, #TheBlueNation chased down their target with nearly nine overs to spare.
Winning the toss and electing to field, RHLCC immediately put the pressure on Imperial CC’s batting lineup. The bowling unit operated with surgical precision, completely stifling the run rate and picking up wickets at crucial intervals. Leon Mohabir spearheaded the attack, delivering a masterclass in control to finish with superb figures of 2 for 19 across his 6 overs. He was brilliantly complemented by skipper Keron Sewnarine, who snatched 2 for 13 in his 4-over spell, and Andrew Tomby, who picked up 2 for 31. Michael Sultan (1/19) and Kevin Augustin (1/1) also chipped in to dismantle any hopes of an Imperial CC recovery, restricting them to a modest 127 for 9 in their allotted 30 overs.
Chasing 128 for victory, RHLCC’s response was defined by an absolute masterclass from Christopher Blucher. Opening the innings, Blucher anchored the chase with explosive confidence, blasting a magnificent 57 runs off just 48 deliveries. His match-winning knock was punctuated by 4 boundaries and 4 massive sixes, striking at an impressive 118.75 to take the game completely away from the opposition. Trevor Henry provided excellent support in the middle order, scoring a vital and aggressive 29 off 30 balls, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes of his own to keep the momentum firmly with RHLCC.
Despite a few late wickets falling as the finish line neared, RHLCC cruised home comfortably, reaching 130 for 5 in just 21.2 overs. It was a flawless, comprehensive team performance that perfectly reflects the squad’s motto, “The Best At Getting Better,” and sets a formidable tone for the rest of the Sunday afternoon division fixtures.
