Keron Sewnarine smashed a match-winning century in the NYNCL Rockaway Premier Division Saturday match between NYZalmi CC and Richmond Hill Liberty. His heroics lead the latter to victory by 3 wickets on July 15, 2023. Earlier the RHL captain, Sewnarine, scalped three wickets to round out a top-shelf all-round performance.
NYZalmi CC won the toss, batted first and got off to a steady start with Said Barran scoring 13 runs. However, wickets fell at regular intervals, but Talha Khan Momand’s half-century (57) provided stability to the innings. Hamad Hussain played a brilliant knock, smashing 94 runs off just 57 balls, including 8 fours and 6 sixes. NYZalmi CC finished their innings with a competitive total of 235 runs in 30 overs.
Keron Sewnarine and Chanderpaul Hemraj were the pick of the bowlers for Richmond Hill Liberty, claiming 3 and 2 wickets each. The team’s bowling effort was supported by contributions from Andrew Tomby, who took 1 wicket, and disciplined bowling overall.
In response, Richmond Hill Liberty got off to a strong start with Chandrapaul Hemraj scoring a quick 13 runs. However, Dino Chooweenam and Surendra Ramcharitar were dismissed cheaply, bringing Altaaf Habibulla and Keron Sewnarine to the crease. Sewnarine played a magnificent innings, smashing 103 runs off 61 balls, including 12 fours and 4 sixes. His partnership with Altaaf Habibulla (23) laid the foundation for Richmond Hill Liberty’s successful chase.
Despite some late wickets falling, including that of Sewnarine, Richmond Hill Liberty reached the target with 9 balls to spare. Vedeshpaul Singh put on the finishing touches to the chase with a swift 23 off 12 balls. Muhammad Umair and Hamad Hussain were the most successful bowlers for NYZalmi CC, picking up 2 wickets each.
Richmond Hill Liberty’s victory was a result of excellent batting performances, especially from Keron Sewnarine, who was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding century.
#TheBlueNation’s Sunday match-up against MMZ-NY CC was a rain-out along with all the other Sunday matches in the New York National Cricket League.
