Liberty Lions continue to shine as they outclassed Meeri Peeri but it was not an ideal week for the Richmond Hill Liberty teams in the ongoing New York National Cricket League. The RHL teams taste their first defeat of the season on both Saturday and Sunday. Baskhar Yadram scored his maiden century of the Liberty Lions season 105(67) while half-centuries from Naresh Rambharos 62 (74), Richard Ramdeen 52(38), Keron Sewnarine 50(34) contributed to the batting chart of their teams. Liberty Lions bowling unit had a decent outing with Paul Wintz leading the way with 3 wickets and Andrew Tomby and Avo Yogeshwar Singh grasped 2 wickets each to dismiss the opposition ranks.
NYNCL 30 overs Saturday Tournament 2021
Liberty Lions: 177/3(21.3 Overs) Beat Meeri Peeri: 174/8(25.0 Overs) By 7 Wickets
Liberty Lions won the toss, asked Meeri Peeri to bat first, and the opening bowling pair removed both the openers within 10 deliveries of the innings. It took no long for Paul Wintz to pick his second wicket as Davinder Singh was dismissed for a duck leaving MP hobbling at 9 for 3. Jaspinder Jesse Singh showed some resilience but Liberty Lions kept taking wickets from the other end. Some handy partnerships in the latter part of the innings took the team’s total to 174 but a collective bowling effort by Liberty Lions never let the match got out of their hands. In return, Richard Ramdeen started the proceedings with a positive mindset as he scored a half-century on just 36 balls followed by a splendid display of power hitting from the Baskhar Yadram who within no time scored a century. He remained unbeaten on 105 from 67 balls as Liberty Lions chased the target in 22nd over of the innings. Yadram earned the MOM award for his brilliant all-around performance as Liberty Lions move to 3rd rank in Group B.
Richmond Hill Liberty: 125/10(21.5 Overs) Lost By 10 Wickets To New York X1: 128/0(16.3 Overs)
Richmond Hill Liberty won the toss against New York XI but failed to post a competitive total on the scoreboard. Batting first after calling the coin correctly only three batsmen were able to cross the double-figure mark. Terrence Madramootoo led with 41 runs giving a ray of hope but nobody else supported from the other end. Jonathan Foo dismissed 6 batsmen; a rare feat against a quality batting lineup. RHL were bowled out for 125 in the twenty-second over of their innings. Chasing 126 at 4.2 required run rate New York XI had no issues as Randal Wilson 62 and Mushin Perkhan 59 easily crossed NYXI over the line in 17 overs without losing a single wicket. This was RHL first defeat of the season but despite losing they still hold the number one position in Group A with 16 points and a better net run rate of 3.13 compared to New York XI.
Caribbean Fest 40 Overs Tournament 2021 Season
Richmond Hill Liberty: 224/9(40.0 Overs) Lost By 6 Wickets To Everest/ACS: 226/4(35.1 Overs)
RHL was put in to bat first by the Everest side and never looked in control throughout the innings. Despite a couple of half-centuries from Naresh Rambharos and Keron Sewnarine, nobody was able to shift gears and score at a hefty rate. They ended up with 224 in their quota of 40 overs asking Everest a required run rate of below 6 an over. Defending a low total RHL failed to pick wickets and the opposition side never let the required run rate creep up. Deveshwari Prashad led the chase for ACS with an unbeaten 74 along with Rajiv Ivan’s 56 and Wasim Haslim’s 41. In the end, RHL lost by six wickets but still managed to hold on to the top spot on the Group B points table edging Everest/ACS on net run rate.
