#TheBlueNationBuzz: Singh, Hemraj shine in Week 11

Avo Singh picked up 3 wickets and scored 38, Chanderpaul Hemraj scored 40 off 22 balls but it was not enough to get Liberty Lions over the line.

In Week 11 of NYNCL 30 overs Saturday Tournament 2021 Liberty Lions were asked to bowl first after they lost the toss to New York X1. Their bowlers did a pretty decent job in restricting the opposition side to a low total but it was their batting that let them down in what seemed to be a straightforward chase. The defeat ended 7 matches winning streak and the side slid down to 3rd rank in the standings. Despite all the chaos Avo Yogeshwar Singh, all-around performance including 38 runs and 3 wickets gave something for the fans to celebrate along with Chanderpaul Hemraj’s blistering 40. The two Richmond Hill Liberty teams scored wins via the forfeit route in their matches.

NYNCL 30 overs Saturday Tournament 2021

New York X1: 141/10 in 25.2 overs beat Liberty Lions 102/10 in 21.2 overs by 39 years.

Liberty Lions started brilliantly with the ball as they curtailed the opening pair to just 20 runs in the first 5 overs. They tasted the first drop of success in the sixth over when Chanderpaul Hemraj removed Hemendra Ramdihal from the scene for 14 runs followed by a series of wickets falling at regular intervals. Randall Wilson was the top scorer who scored a cautious 47 runs inning which contributed a major chunk to the team’s total. Avo Yogeshwar Singh was the most successful bowler for Liberty Lions with 3 wickets to his name, giving away just 31 runs at an economy of 5.17. Baskhar Yadram, and Andrew Tomby grasped 2 wickets each to restrict the opposition side to 141 for 10 in 25 overs.

Liberty Lions had to mount a run rate of 4.7 but not even in their dreams they would have thought of making a mess of this target. They lost both their openers for 0 but a 50-run partnership between Avo Yogeshwar Singh and Chanderpaul Hemraj gave a sound momentum to their chase. Chanderpaul Hemraj departed after a quick-fired 40 on just 22 deliveries leaving the team with 52- 3 requiring 89 to in almost 14 overs. West Indian International player Devendra Bishoo played a key role with the ball to dismantle the rest of the batting lineup as he picked up 3 wickets for just 11 runs in 6 overs. The only resilience came from the bat of Avo Yogeshwar Singh who scored 38 runs and was the 8th wicket to fall in the process. Liberty Lions were done and dusted in 22nd over for 102. Devendra Bishoo was awarded the MOM award for a miraculous display of spin bowling. This defeat will surely dent the confidence level of the Liberty Lions side but they are famous for bouncing back from such positions.
