#TheBlueNationBuzz: McKenzie, Khan, Singh headline RHL winning weekend

Skipper McKenzie (left) bowled a magical last over to defend 5 runs, Khan (center) struck an unbeaten 93, and Singh (right) blasted 56 off 30 balls.

Richmond Hill Liberty Club got back to their winning ways in New York National Cricket League Cricket Zone (Saturday) and Rockway (Sunday) T20 Cups. A magnificent 93 from Azeemuddin Khan’s bat and Tegna McKenzie 4 wickets for 30 contributed in the last over, thriller victory over NY Renegades in the Cricket Zone T20 Cup. Yogeshwar Avo Singh’s 56 off 30 balls led the batting department and Christopher Blutcher 3 for 5 aided in thrashing the Demolition Cricket Club side by a margin of 120 runs in the Rockaway Group T20 Cup league match. The wins come following a shaky start for the club in both tournaments having lost 3 of the previous six games across both days.

NYNCL & Cricket Zone T20 Cup

Richmond Hill Liberty 163 for 3 (Azeemuddin Khan 93) won by 2 runs against NY Renegades 161 for 8 ( Tegana Mc Kenzie 4-30)

Richmond Hill Liberty won the toss and elected to bat first against NY Renegades. RHL had a dreadful start as they lost their first wicket in the fifth over with just 17 runs on the board. Avo Singh was the next to depart for 6 in the eight over but it was Azeemuddin Khan who took the reins of the game in his own hands and bashed oppositions bowlers in all directions. He single-handedly paved the way for a competitive total despite mediocre performances from the other end. Azeemuddin Khan remained unbeaten with 93 runs off just 56 runs including 9 fours and 5 sixes.

In reply, NY Renegades had a flying start before the opening partnership was broken in the fourth over by Andrew Tomby followed by Chriopher Blutcher’s strike in 6th over, removing Sufian Rehman who had started to dominate the proceedings. RHL picked up a crucial wicket of Abu Shayed whose little stay at the crease had shifted the momentum in Renegades’ favor. A solid 4th wicket partnership looked to seize the deal. RHL scrapped, however, and left skipper Tegana McKenzie to defend 5 runs for the win in the last over.

McKenzie knocked over Ridwan Sultan off the first ball and gave up just two singles in the next two deliveries. The equation for NY Renegades was 3 runs needed off 3 balls with 4 wickets in hand. The skipper scalped two wickets off the next two balls and bowled a dot ball to finish a sensational and much-needed victory. Tegna Mc Kenzie was awarded the MOM award for heroics and saving the match for his side from an impossible position.

Richmond Hill Liberty swept Demolition Cricket Club away in the tsunami of runs after winning the toss and electing to bat first at the Baisley Ground. Despite losing Azeemuddin Khan cheaply for a sluggish 14, RHL batsmen made sure to recover from the drought of runs. A collective team effort where everyone chipped in with an aggressive strike rate, followed by a majestic half-century by Avo Singh who amassed 56 off just 30 deliveries. RHL finished with 193 onboard in their share of 20 overs of the match

In return, DCC had no answer to the skillset of RHL bowlers. They were blown away in haste chasing a massive total. The highest score from their side was 14 while 8 batsmen failed to enter a double-figure mark. Christopher Blucher 3 for 5 and Keniemo Alphonso 2 for 7 played an instrumental role in the side’s victory by a margin of 120 runs. DCC fell for 73 in 19 overs as RHL moved to the 3rd spot with 5 points in the Group A table. Yogeshwar Avo Singh was named the MOM for his entertaining half-century.
