The Quarter Final stage of the ongoing New York National Cricket League is concluded and the Richmond Hill Liberty teams have successfully moved to the next stage of the tournaments. On Sunday Dino Chooweenam’s blistering half-century at a strike rate of 211 single-handedly diluted the batting burden of the side while Altaf Habibulla’s 3 wickets for 24 runs and Keron Sewarine 2 wickets in 4 overs wrapped up the opposition batting line up in quick succession. On Saturday Sewnarine led the bowling and returned along with Madramootoo to seal a tense win.

GameChangerz: 146/10 lost by 3 Wickets to RHL: 147/7
On Saturday, RHL pulled of an unnecessarily tense victory agianst GameChangerz at The Cricket Cage. Winning the toss GameChangerz took first-strike but never got the momentum to their innings losing wickets early and at regular intervals. Keron Sewnarine led the bowling efforts for RHL with 3 wickets while Altaaf Habibulla picked up 3 and there were 1 apiece for Raymond Ramratan, Michael Sultan, Terrence Madramootoo & Dino Chooweenam.
What appeared to be a pedestrian chase at The Cage turned out to pose a challenge for #TheBlueNation’s top and middle order. The top order sunk quickly to 35 for 4 in reply before skipper Tegana McKenzie added some stability in the middle with a cautious 22 runs. Three more quick wickets left the team in a precarious position facing elimination at 81/7.
Confidence in the long batting order stayed in the camp, however, as Sewnarine teamed up with Madramootoo at the crease. The duo turned the tide on the inning with some smart running between the wicket early in the partnership. This translated to some magnificent display of power-hitting as the duo quickly turned the opposition hopes of winning into fleeting thoughts of what if’s.
Madramootoo finished unbeaten with 37 and Sewnarine 24 to compile the 66 runs match-winning partnership. Sewnarine for his all-around efforts was awarded the player-of-the-match award.
NYNCL 40 overs Sunday Tournament 2021
New York Warriors: 141/10 (36.2 Overs) Lost By 5 Wickets to RHL: 144/5(27.3 Overs)
On Sunday, In Caribbean Fest 40 Overs Play-Off between New York Warriors (NYW) vs Richmond Hill Liberty (RHL) at 80th Street in Brooklyn, NYW won the toss and elected to bat first. Altaaf Habibulla was the first to strike as he dismissed both the openers Mohammed Nazu and Rudro Chowdhury for just 4 and 6 runs respectively. NYW found themselves tottering at 13 for 3 since RHL’s opening bowling had them strangled with their superb line & length. The 4th wicket tried to work their way into recovering the damage done by RHL bowlers but an outstanding piece of fielding by Danesh Deonarain brought curtains to all the efforts which seemed an obstacle for the RHL victory. Soon, the rest of the team surrendered without posing any threats as they were bowled out in the 37th over with 141 runs on the board. Altaaf Habibulla took 3 wickets in his spell of 8 overs, giving away just 24 runs with an economy of 4.25. Keron Sewnarine grasped 2 scalps including the wicket of Mohammed Jakir Hussain, the highest run-scorer of their innings. Almost every bowler tried by the side was rewarded with a wicket.
The 141 posted was never to challenge a side like Richmond Hill Liberty as they surpassed the total in 27.3 overs. Dino Chooweenam led the charge with his scintillating display of batting, accumulating 76 runs from 36 balls, his innings included 10 sixes as he made light work of the opposition bowling lineup with his staggering strike rate of 211.11.RHL did lose some wickets in the process but their earlier efforts made sure it did not affect the outcome. Sewnarine once again repeated his match-winning abilities seeing home the chase with an unbeaten 17 along with Azeem Khan’s 16 not out. Dino Chooweenam standout showcasing of magnificent batting skills earned him a well-deserved Man of the Match award.

Meeri Peeri 212/9 (30 Overs) won By 94 Runs against Liberty Lions: 118/10(26.4 Overs)
Liberty Lions journey in the Saturday 30 overs Tournament came to an end on August 28th after they lost to Meeri Peeri by 94 runs. After winning the toss Meeri Peeri posted a challenging total of 212 in 30 overs. Muddassar Wariach led the batting with 81 and was supported by Amandeep Sing’s 40. Andrew Tomby starred with the ball in hand taking 3 wickets for 28. In reply, Liberty Lions failed to cross the finishing line ending up all out on 118 in 27 overs, and eventually bid farewell to the long tournament. Their key players missed out on the crucial match as Richard Ramdeen, Avo Singh, Bhaskar Yadram, Mohammed Shaw were selected for the USA Minor League Tournament and Chanderpaul Hemraj was engaged in playing in the Caribbean Premier League in West Indies.
Throughout the tournament, they played quality, fearless cricket to attain heights on the point table. Despite missing out on an opportunity to seize the trophy they still feel they had served enough justice to the Gentlemen’s game in the broader aspect of the game, especially with this being the team’s first league tournament as a unite. The cricket analysts believe that this bunch of talented players will come stronger next year.
