NYNCL 30 overs Play OFF 2021 Saturday: Semi-Final
Richmond Hill Liberty: 199/5(30.0 OVERS) Beat PUNJAB 11: 160/10(29.1 OVERS) By 39 Runs
Richmond Hill Liberty won the toss and elected to bat against Punjab 11. Dino Chooweenam and Naresh Rambharos stepped in with a solid plan to tackle the opposition bowling attack. Dino took the charge from one end while Narsesh brushed off the pressure from the other side as the pair accumulated 57 runs in 8 overs with major contributions from Dino Chooweenam who scored 45 runs in just 30 balls at a strike rate of 150. Dino departed in the eighth over while Naresh left the crease in the 10th over. Alex Amsterdam then took the reins of proceedings in his hands, coming one down he showed real character by not only scoring runs when wickets were tumbling from the other end but also at a high strike rate. He scored an unbeaten 89 runs off 76 balls. Altaaf Habibulla’s cameo of 33 runs at the end took the team to a comprehensive total of 199 for 5 in their share of 30 overs.
In Return, it seemed as if RHL had already sorted out everything beforehand. Tegana McKenzie and Altaaf Habibulla removed both the openers respectively with just 3 runs on the board. The next pair tried to resist the fiery spirit of the RHL bowlers but ate up too many deliveries making life difficult for batsmen to follow. Later Terrence Madramootoo dealt his magic to dismantle the batting lineup of the Punjab 11 side. He took 4 wickets in his quota of six overs giving away just 37. The rest was wrapped up by Altab Habibulla who clinched 3 wickets for 35. The Punjab 11 crumbled to 160 in the last over of the second innings. Alex Amsterdam won the MOM award for his heroics with the bat and lifting his side in a tempestuous situation.
Caribbean Fest 40 Overs Play-Off 2021 Season: Semi-Final
Richmond Hill Liberty: 144/10(40.0 OVERS) Lost To METEN MEER ZORG CC: 145/4(29.1 Overs) by 6 wickets
Toss was probably the only thing RHL called correctly on Saturday. Batting first, they failed to post a challenging total to question the batting ranks of any side. Apart from Christopher Blucher’s season-best 42, which came in too late, nobody showed any resistance to countercharge. They could only manage 144 runs before they ran out of wickets in the last over of their innings
In reply, the bowling unit of RHL showed a fighting spirit as they gave Meten Mer Zorg a run for their money in the first half of their innings confining them to below 100 for 4. However, The fifth-wicket partnership stole the show as they surpassed the total in the 30th over of the innings
RHL is now knocked out of this year’s competition. They had a splendid campaign as they remained table toppers for the most part of the season and were favourite contenders for the trophy but unfortunately had to bid farewell to the tournament after a bad game.
