Liberty Lions vs Columbia CC – Saturday
In the first match played on Saturday, Liberty Lions posted a mammoth total of 347 for six in their quota of 30 overs. After winning the toss against Columbia CC opted to bat first and put up a brilliant display of batting right from the word go. Openers, Shiv Sangalemaa (43) and Richard Ramdeen (35) laid the foundation to a fiery start which was carried along by Yogeshwar (Avo) Singh who topped the batting chart with his 83 runs off 60 balls. A scintillating effort at the end by Avinash Sookraj (58*) and Satish Dwarka (31*) took the team total to almost 350. Navam Shah was the pick of the bowlers as he managed to grasp 3 scalps amid all carnage from Liberty Lions batting unit, while Karan Sharma complimented him with 2 wickets despite conceding too many runs. In return, Columbia CC failed to comply with the uphill task posed by Liberty Lions as the team fell for 183/10 in the process. The only valiant effort came from the bat of Rahul Sharma who scored a half-century before being dismissed by Sangalemma. Yogeshwar Singh converted his batting form into the bowling department as he starred with the ball as well, dismantling 4 Columbia CC batsmen giving away only 25 runs, and winning a well-deserved Man of the Match. Liberty Lions have moved to number 4 rank in the Group B table.
RHL vs Bachan CC – Saturday
In the NYNCL 30 overs Saturday Match between Richmond Hill Liberty and Bachan, RHL had the better of the Bachan Team by 25 runs. After calling the coin correctly RHL decided to bat first and despite a shaky start, the middle order chipped in with handy runs to take the team total to 162/10 in 27.2 overs. A collective effort by the Bachan bowling contingent seemed enough at the midway break but RHL had other plans. Bachan’s wickets fell at regular intervals as every bowler of the RHL side picked up a wicket. Six Bachan batsmen failed to enter the double-figure mark as they were bowled for 137 in the last over of the innings. Terrence Madramootoo earned the MOM award for his all-round performance, picking up 3 wickets and scoring 13 crucial runs with the bat. Richmond Hill Liberty remain unbeaten in the NYNCL 30 overs Saturday Tournament as they comfortably sit at no 1 position in Group A table with four consecutive victories.
RHL vs Phoenix CC – Sunday.
Richmond Hill Liberty was in a bit of a rush in the Caribbean Fest 40 Overs Tournament as they chased down the target of 194 asked by Phoenix Cricket Club in just 22.2 overs. Batting first at one stage Phoenix Cricket Club was restricted to 22-2 in 10 overs as they struggled to find gaps to score runs. Although the middle order showed some resilience but failed to comply with the modern form of Cricket and eat up too many deliveries especially Tejpaul Bishundat who scored 31 off 74 putting up pressure on the following batsmen. Apart from Daniel Mangru (36 from 23), nobody from Phoenix Cricket Club looked in business as they finished at 193 for 8 from their 40 overs. Terrence Madramootoo showcased a splendid bowling spell to bamboozle opponent ranks, picking up 3 wickets for 46 runs in 8 overs. In reply, Richmond Hill Liberty never took their feet off the accelerating gear as every batsman scored at a healthy strike rate. Altaaf Habibulla’s unbeaten 57, his third consecutive half-century this season, sealed the deal for RHL as they chased down 194 with almost 18 overs to spare. Raymond Ramratan contributed a steady hand of 41 also. Ramiz Mohammad tried to pose a threat with his bowling skills, but he was too costly to be proven effective. Richmond Hill Liberty currently dominates its respective table as they hold no 1 rank in Group B table of the tournament.
