Sewnarine’s 73 & Raghubir’s 4-Rer Earn a Crushing Victory For RHLCC

Week 6 of this season is done and dusted with Richmond Hill Liberty club making headlines with their impactful performances on the pitch. They demolished their opponents, Phantom Stallions CC in Sunday’s clash by 166 runs, but lost a close encounter to Punjabi X1 2 by the barest of margins; by 1 run on Saturday. Keron Sewnarine was the star with the bat as he mustered 73 runs off just 54 deliveries, while Samuel Raghubir 4 wickets for 24 runs and gave a tough time to the batters.

Richmond Hill Liberty 161 for 8 lost by 1 run against Punjabi X1 2 162 for 9 (Andrew Tomby 3-27, Michael Sultan 3-35)

RHL was asked to field first by the opposing side at the Baisley Ground on Saturday. Andrew Tomby provided RHL with the first slice of victory in his opening over, dismissing Faraz Hanif for just four runs. Punjabi X1 2 struggled to score runs as wickets continued to tumble, and at the halfway stage of the first innings, they were reeling at 65 for 5 courtesy of a brilliant display of bowling skills by the RHL side spearheaded by Andrew Tomby. Despite decent performance at the back end by Michael Sultan, the Punjabi side was able to accumulate 162 runs in their quota of 30 overs. Andrew Tomby finished with 3 for 27 while Michael Sultan ended his spell with the figures of 3 for 35 in his 6 overs.

In return, RHL made a cautious start to the chase. Thir opening pair steadily scored more than 50 runs in the first 10 overs to set a solid foundation for the batters to come. Christopher Blucher was the first to depart for 26 runs bringing Yutesh Avi Dhanpaul who scored 33 crucial runs at a hefty strike rate to ease off the run rate pressure. RHL saw a batting collapse since the second wicket and failed to recover from it. The side ended up on 161 for 8 in 30 overs losing their first match of the season by just 1 run. Dino Chooweenam gathered the most runs for the side scoring 42 in 35 balls.

Despite the setback, RHL remains in second place in their respective group on the points table.

RHL had a shaky start after winning the toss and electing to bat first against Phantom Stallions, they were restricted to 12 for 2 inside the four overs. Keron Sewnarine’s 73 off 54 deliveries and a couple of handy performances from Naresh Rambharos (47 off 54) and Trevor Henry (36 off 38) ensured a respectable total for the side, posting 232 on the board.

In reply, it proved a mammoth task for the chasing side as they could not even cross the three-figure mark. Just three bowlers were enough to derail the entire side for 66 runs. Samuel Raghubir, making his debut for #TheBlueNation, took 4 wickets for 24 runs in 8 overs while 3 wickets each for Jamiel Jackman (3-9) and Altaaf Habibulla (3-33). Keron Sewnarine earned the MOM award for his brilliant half-century upfront.
