Sewnarine onslaught snatches Victory from the palm of Opposition

A thrilling victory and a disappointing loss conclude week 12 of the ongoing season. On Saturday, RHL won a close encounter in the last over against Sher-e-Punjab by 2 wickets, while on Sunday the side failed to defend a low total against the New York Titans. Keron Sewnarine’s heroics with the bat inspired his team to clinch a victory from the jaws of defeat. Moreover, a resilient half-century by Naresh Rambharos (54), 48 by Vedeshpaul Singh, and 2 wickets each by Dino Chooweenam, Renwick Batson, and Altaaf Habibulla were the other notable performances of the week.

NYNCL Saturday 30 Overs 2022

Richmond Hill Liberty Club 225/8 (Keron Sewnarine 94, Naresh Rambharos 54) BEAT Sher-E-Punjab 222/6 (Dino Chooweenam 2-31, Renwick Batson 2-34) by 2 wickets

RHL was put into the field first after the side lost the toss. The opening bowler-duo had a tough time as the opposition pair started the innings on a high note. Things looked gloomy at 60 for none in five overs, but Keron Sewnarine removed the threatening Kulwinder Singh for 27 to provide a sigh of relief. Dino Chooweenam then followed with a double strike in consecutive overs to pull things back in favour of his side. Renwick Batson was next to showcase his skills, taking 2 wickets in quick succession, firming their grip on the game. From 60 for 0 in 5 overs, Sher-e-Punjab was brought to its knees with 93-5 in 16 overs. RHL tasted their next success in the 19th over when Vedeshpaul Singh dismissed Robin Choudhry for 20. The Post 20-over proceedings didn’t go in RHL’s way as the Sher e Punjab’s late middle found some luck and were able to score some quick runs. The late onslaught helped SEP post a total of 222 for 6 in their 30 overs. Dino Chooweenam and Renwick Batson finished with two wickets each, while Vedeshpaul Singh and Keron Sewnarine picked one wicket each.

In return, RHL had a similar start as they had with the ball; a disastrous one. The side lost half of their batters within 8 overs for just 42. The defeat seemed imminent until Keron Sewnarine and Naresh Rambharos arrived at the crease. Both the batters piled up 108 runs for the 6th wicket. Rambharos departed after scoring a well-crafted run a ball fifty, an innings of greater significance than it sounds. 73 runs were needed in 7.0 overs (42 balls) with 4 wickets remaining at 10.43 when the 6th wicket fell. Keron Sewarine then took the charge and was able to pull off one of the greatest innings of his career. From 57 off 49, he scored an unbeaten 94 in just 67 deliveries, taking his side to a miraculous win in the last over of the match. He was awarded the MOM award for his brilliant match-winning performance.

Lax Network Queens DBA Dunkin 40 overs Competition 2022

Richmond Hill Liberty Club 195/10 (Vedeshpaul Singh 48) LOST to New York Titans 196/6 (Altaaf Habibulla 2-43) by 4 wickets

Richmond Hill Liberty won the toss and elected to bat against NYT in the 40 overs competition game on Sunday. Mohindra Boodram and Latchman Bisram started cautiously compiling 45 runs but failed to take off as the partnership broke in the 9th over after scoring 45 runs. The following batters failed to score runs and casually lost their wickets. Vedeshpaul Singh was the pick of the batters with 48 runs to his name against 35 balls including 3 sixes and 4 fours. The remaining side struggled to convert the starts into big scores and RHL was eventually bowled on 195 in 34.3 overs

Defending a low total, RHL bowlers made life tough for the chasing side. They did not allow the opposition to fly away and kept putting pressure on with regular strikes. Altaaf Habibulla’s economical spell of 2 for 32 in 6.3 overs and Leon Mohabir’s 2 wickets for 43 runs in 8 overs lifted the team’s morale. The New York Titans finally chased down the target in the 34th over, but not before losing 6 wickets.
