Khan, Mohabir & Rooney lead Richmond Hill Liberty in NYNCL

Azeemuddin Khan, Leon Mohabir, and Jason Rooney are leading the runs and wickets tables for Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club (RHLCC) at the halfway stage of the New York National Cricket League (NYNCL) competitions. RHLCC is participating in the League’s two competitions; a 25 overs Saturday league and a 30 over Sunday league. The Queens, NY club is solidly placed on the points table for both leagues, tied on points for the top position. Khan leads the batting charts for RHLCC on both Saturday and Sunday while Mohabir is on top for the Sunday league wickets and Rooney for the Saturday league.

The Galaxy Maids sponsored club crossed the halfway stage of the competitions on the weekend of August 22/23 having won 6 of their 7 combined games played and one game being washed out. The club is slated to play eight preliminary games in each league before the playoffs begin in late September.

Sunday Games

Steady and impactful performances on Sundays saw the SVC sponsored RHLCC go undefeated so far with 3 wins and one no-result. The club’s campaign bowled off with a tense encounter against Dashmesh CC. RHLCC fielded first and restricted DCC to 187 with Dino Chooweenam, Terrence Madramootoo, and Mohabir picking up 2 wickets each. Captain, Trevor Henry (46) and international player, Assad Fudadin (46) combined for a 92 runs third-wicket partnership to break the back of the chase and setting up a 3-wicket victory.

The next encounter was against Atlantic Renegades at the Roy A. Sweeney Cricket Oval in Gateway, Brooklyn. The Rockaway Group of Companies sponsored RHLCC took first strike and posted a commanding 200 for 6 off the 30 overs. Alex Amsterdam led the batting with an unbeaten 51 and was supported by Ryan Rajmangal (44), Khan (33), and Henry (26). Mohabir and Keron Swenarine took control of the defense picking up 4 and three wickets respectfully. Jamiel Jackman and Henry chipped in with a wicket each also.

After rain washed out the match-up against New York Centurion CC the Century 21 Professional Realty sponsored RHLCC clashed with Phoenix All Stars last Sunday. After winning the toss and batting first PAS was bowled out for 92 in 25 overs. Fudadin led the way with a 5-wicket haul and Madramootoo (2), Sewenarine (1), and Habibullal (1) providing support. Opening batsmen Chooweenam (51*) and Khan (34*) made light work of the chase wrapping it up in the 13th over with little concern.

Khan is currently at the club’s batting tally with 85 runs at an average of 42.5. Henry (72), Chooweenam (57), Amsterdam (51), and Fudadin (46) round out the top five. Mohabir is at the top of the bowling charts with 6 wickets at an average of 10.3. Fudadin (5), Madramootoo (4), Swenarine (4) and Henry (2) rounds out the top 5 with the ball.

Saturday Games

With the exception of one minor blip, the Saturday Squad has turned out comprehensive performances in their four games. RHLCC launched its campaign with a commanding 8 wicket win over New York Nepal CC. Derick Narine, who bagged 4 wickets for 10 runs, along with Rooney (2), Madramootoo (2), and Mohabir (1) made light work of NYNCC bundling them out for 62. Francis Mendonca and Vijay Surujpaul knocked in 25 each wrap up the chase in the 10th over.

Meten Meer Zorg CC NY administered a sound beating to the RHLCC squad in the second game in a low scoring match. MMZ CC batted first and posted 138 for 9 in their 25 overs. Altaf Habibulla and Michael Sultan picked up 2 wickets each while Mohabir and Madramootoo scalped one each. The RHLCC chase never got going and limped its way to 54 all out in the 20th over.

Needing a strong recovery from the loss RHLCC batted first in the following match against Valley Stream Royals CC. #TheBlueNation posted 167 for 9 in the 25 overs. Avinash Sookraj top-scored with 46 to lead the batting. RHLCC made steady inroads into the VSRCC batting to restrict the chase to 104 all out in the 19th over. Rooney, Sewnarine, Videsh Singh, and Ritesh Bridgelall bagged two wickets each while Moien Khan and Tooneshwar Kristona accounted for one apiece.

Next up was Kingsmen XI CC. RHLCC won the toss and batted first. Derick Narine and Azeem Khan launched an assault on the opposition with 68 off 30 balls and 67 off 38 balls respectively to set up a daunting 219 off the 25 overs. Captain Francis Mendonca chipped in with 36. With ball in hand #TheBlueNation cleaned up KXI CC for 75 runs with Moien Khan leading the way with 3 wickets for 33 runs. Neive McNally, Jason Rooney, and Swenarine were also among the wickets with two each.

Azeem Khan is currently RHLCC’s leading runs scorer with 78 runs in his four innings. Sookraj (64), Mendonca (61), Narine (39), and Surujpaul (25) are in the top 5 run-getters. Jason Rooney leads the bowling with 6 wickets at an average of 9.7. Narine, Madramootoo and Sewnarine, four wickets each, and Madramootoo 3 wickets round off the top 5 scalpers.

The NYNCL competitions continue every week and RHLCC is set on maintaining the intensity in the back end of the league stage of the fixtures.
