Richmond Hill Liberty CC Celebrates Continued Success On and Off the Field in 2019

RHLCC Celebrates winning 3 Championships in 2019 along off-field accomplishments.

The Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club (RHLCC) celebrates an overwhelmingly successful year as we wrap up 2019. The Queens, New York based club was crowned Champions in three tournaments it participated in and finishing in second place in a fourth. Individual performances on the field were highlighted by the club’s 2019 Most Valuable Player, Dino Chooweenam, Sunday team captain, Dominique Rikhi, vice-captain Trevor Henry, Azeem Khan, Leon Mohabir, Terrence Madramootoo, Moien Khan and Altaaf Habibula. Off the field the Liberty Sports Club, Inc. organization continues to grow its membership and further its mission of creating a positive environment for young individuals through physical fitness, team sports and mentorship support. 

The club culminated it’s annual activities with an awards ceremony held on December 8th. The event began with the club acknowledging the organizers of tournaments in which RHLCC participated in. This included Eastern American Cricket Association (EACA) and New York National Cricket League (NYNCL) whose presidents, Rudy Persaud and Ramesh Arunasalam respectively, were present at the occasion.

The evening belong to the awardees, however, and all those who contributed to the successesses of the organization in 2019. Headlining the awardees were Dino Chooweenam, who completed his first year with the club. The imposing, left-handed, opening batsman had one of his best years in New York cricket. He amassed a mammoth 1002 runs for RHLCC in 23 innings which included 3 centuries and 5 half-centuries to go along with his 5 wickets. Chooweenam’s exploits earned him the 2019 club Most Valuable Player (MVP) along with the EACA T20 best batsman. To add to his accolades for the season he also picked up the EACA 2019 T20 League MVP along with earning the best batsman awards in the NYNCL and New York York Cricket Academy T20 Tournament finals. 

RHLCC’s captain, Dominique Rikhi, who was the club’s MVP in 2017 and 2018, was among the top honours having scored 831 runs in 18 innings which were accented with 1 century and 6 fifties. Rikhi copped the EACA 40 Overs Best Batsman award along with the honor of leading RHLCC to its fist EACA Championship since 2016. Trevor Henry, who had a strong all-round 40-Over season was named the EACA 40-Overs MVP for his 466 runs and 7 wickets. Leon Mohabir picked up the club’s best bowler awards in both the EACA 40-Overs & T20 Leagues. Azeem Khan was the best batsman while Moien Khan was the best bowler in the NYNCL 30 Overs League.

Off the field the club continue to create a positive environment for its base of young members in the New York City, Log Island areas. The club ended the 2018 holidays with a toy drive which contributed to spreading joy for those in need over the holidays. Acknowledgement is also given to Inzy Khan who completed the tremendous achievement of graduating with a Bachelors of Science degree. Altaaf Habibulla, Kavindra Sahabir and Javed Shakoor are also encouraged to maintain their dedicated pursuit of their Bachelors degree in the coming years. The club also pledges to intensify its involvement in community activities such as volunteering with the New York City Parks Department as it did in 2018 and previous year.
