MVP Madramootoo Headlines Liberty SC Awards

Terrence Madramootoo took home the big prize of Liberty Sports Club’s 2015 season most valuable player when the club hosted its 2015 Awards Presentation and Holiday Party on Saturday, December 12th. The Hafeeze ‘Mr. Rockaway’ Ali, owner of the Rockaway Gropy of Companies, sponsored event was hosted at the Royal Empress Banquet Hall in Queens, NY. Players, relatives, friends and well wishers attended the event last Saturday to honor the achievements of the club during the 2015 Season.

 

Trevor Henry, Trinson Carmichael, Andre Kirton, Romeno Deane and Leon Mohabir took away top awards. Captain, Danesh Deonarain, was presented with the EACA ‘Cricket Zone’ 40-Overs Championship and T20 Runners Up trophies by league president Rudy Persaud.

 

The six year old club reached incredible highs during the 2015 season where countless personal and team records were shattered. The GMA Enterprise sponsored Liberty SC finished the season with 21 wins and just 2 losses and was rewarded with being crowned champions in the Eastern American Cricket Association 40-Overs competition and runners in the league’s Twenty20 Competition.

 

Leading the charge in the season was Madramootoo. Having been a member of the club for five out of its six years, Madramootoo turned in his best performance in the 2015 season. Scoring 456 runs in the 40-Over season at an average of 51 runs per inning and a highest score of 137 unbeaten with two fifties, Madramootoo finished second in the runs column. He also finished third in the wickets column with 23 wickets at an average of 13 runs per wicket.

 

Madramootoo continued his good form with the bat in the T20 competition scoring 99 runs in 4 innings with one fifty. A shoulder injury restricted his bowling capabilities down to just 3 wickets in the T20’s.

 

Trevor Henry took away the 40-Overs best batsman award while Trinson Carmichael was honored as the 40-Overs best bowler. Andre Kirton picked up the 40-Overs final MVP award for his swashbuckling 87 off 36 balls.

 

Romeno Deane picked up the T20 best batsman award while Leon Mohabir was named the T20 Best bowler.

 

Francis Mendonca, Henry & Madramootoo were recognized for scoring centuries in the season. Madramootoo was also recognized for picking up the only 5-Wicket haul in the season. Carmichael picked up the club’s 1st hat-trick during the season and copped an award for the phenomenal feat.

 

Special awards of recognition were handed to team sponsors Hafeez Ali of Rockaway Group of Companies and to GMA Enterprise. Team manager Tooneshwar Kristona was also honored for his unselfish contribution to the team over the season.

 

Founding members Dilly Khilawan and Danesh Deonarain were recognized for reaching the 1000 runs milestone during the 2014 season.

 

Special mention were given to Ravi Etwaroo from Cricket Zone and Trophy World in the Bronx who made generous donations to the club throughout the year.

 

EACA President, Rudy Persaud, gave the night’s feature address before presenting the team with the 2015 Championship trophies. Mr. Persaud congratulated the club on their achievement through constant improvement in the league over the last 6 years.
Earlier in the night LSC President, Vickey Khilawan, thanked the players and members of the Club for an outstanding year. He commended the players for their loyalty to the team and their perseverance over the course of the season despite the many challenges. Khilawan also thanked sponsors, Rockaway Group of Companies and GMA Enterprise who were integral in making the season the success it turned out to be.
