Mohabir 5-Wicket Haul, Habibulla & Sultan Shine in Week 7 for RHL

Leon Mohabir (left) picked up a 5-wicket haul on Sunday. Altaaf Habibulla (center) top scored on Saturday (34) and Sunday (42*), picked up 4 wickets over the weekend, and took four catches. Jimmy Sultan led the bowling on Saturday with 3 wickets.

Richmond Hill Liberty CC had mixed results over the weekend in the 7th round of the New York National League Premier competitions. Leon Mohabir bagged a five-wicket haul on Sunday and along with a strong all-round performance by Altaaf Habibulla RHL secured a comfortable win over Elite CC. On Saturday shaky batting along with poor batting conditions accounted for a 65 runs defeat to Everest/ACS.

ON SUNDAY – Richmond Hill Liberty vs Elite CC

Richmond Hill Liberty CC emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against Elite Cricket Club in the New York National League Sunday Premier 40 Overs completion. Richmond Hill Liberty CC won the match by 5 wickets.

Batting first, Elite Cricket Club got off to a shaky start, losing their opener Arnil Ragdnath early for just 1 run. Brandon Paydana and Chetram Persaud steadied the innings with valuable contributions of 17 and 24 runs respectively. Tamesh Persaud provided the much-needed impetus with a quickfire knock of 27 runs off 37 deliveries, including 1 six. However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and Elite Cricket Club was eventually bowled out for 166 runs in 35.4 overs.

Richmond Hill Liberty CC’s bowling attack performed admirably, with Leon Mohabir being the standout performer. He took 5 wickets for 29 runs in his 8 overs, causing significant damage to Elite Cricket Club’s batting lineup. Altaaf Habibulla also played a crucial role, taking 3 wickets for 31 runs in his 7.4 overs.

Chasing a target of 167, Richmond Hill Liberty CC faced some early hiccups as they lost Latchman Bisram (29) and Varun Mangla (14) in quick succession. However, they recovered well with contributions from Christopher Blucher (10) and Surendra Ramcharitar (33). Altaaf Habibulla played a pivotal inning, scoring an unbeaten 42 runs off 64 balls to anchor the chase. Keron Sewnarine (18) and Naresh Rambharos (6*) made valuable contributions, ensuring that Richmond Hill Liberty CC reached the target with 5 wickets in hand and 7.1 overs to spare.

Elite Cricket Club’s bowlers tried their best to defend the target, but they couldn’t do enough to prevent Richmond Hill Liberty CC from clinching the victory. Marlon Persaud was the pick of the bowlers for Elite Cricket Club, taking 2 wicket for 30 runs in his 7.5 overs.

Overall, it was an enthralling contest between the two teams. Richmond Hill Liberty CC displayed resilience and composure in their chase, ultimately emerging as the winners. Elite Cricket Club fought hard but fell short in their defense of the target.

Leon Mohabir’s brilliant bowling performance earned him the Player of the Match award for his crucial 5-wicket haul. His efforts played a significant role in restricting Elite Cricket Club to a modest total.

ON SATURDAY – Everest/ACS vs Richmond Hill Liberty

Everest/ACS emerged victorious against Richmond Hill Liberty in the NYNCL Rockaway Premier Division Saturday competition cricket match. Everest/ACS secured a commanding 65-run victory over their opponents.

Batting first, Everest/ACS got off to a shaky start as Ronaldo Renee was caught by Keron Sewnarine off the bowling of Andrew Tomby for just 3 runs. However, Andrew Davis and Aldaine Thomas stabilized the innings with some aggressive stroke play. Davis contributed 18 runs before being caught by Raymond Ramrattan off Andrew Tomby, while Thomas scored a brisk 20 runs before falling victim to Altaaf Habibulla’s bowling.

Oraine Williams played a crucial knock of 45 runs to anchor the innings, supported by Bhaskar Yadram’s entertaining innings of 33 runs, including three sixes. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Everest/ACS managed to post a challenging total of 180 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 30 overs.

In response, Richmond Hill Liberty faced a tough challenge in almost impossible conditions. Around the 6th over of the chase the lawn sprinklers came on in the cricket field. Apparently, that along with foggy conditions was not enough to convince umpire Nicholls and Sadeo to stop play. Even though the ball got soggy and conditions got progressively worse for the players.

The Lido Beach ground sprinklers actively watering the outfield for most of RHL’s chase. The umpires refused to stop play despite these conditions.

Before that, however, Trinson Carmichael wreaked havoc with his three wickets, removing Brandon Pydana, Shiv Sangalemaa, and Raymond Ramrattan early in the innings. Sprinkler on and all Keron Sewnarine and Altaaf Habibulla made a brief effort to stabilize the chase, but they couldn’t build a substantial partnership.

Richmond Hill Liberty’s batsmen struggled against the disciplined bowling attack of Everest/ACS and conditions. They lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to put up a significant partnership. Vedeshpaul Singh and Tegana Mc Kenzie tried to provide some resistance with their scores of 18 and 25 respectively, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the match.

Eventually, Richmond Hill Liberty was bowled out for 115 runs in 23 overs, falling 65 runs short of the target. Trinson Carmichael, with his three wickets, was the pick of the bowlers for Everest/ACS. Aldaine Thomas also chipped in with three crucial wickets to help seal the victory.

Everest/ACS displayed a brilliant all-round performance to secure a convincing win over Richmond Hill Liberty. They showcased excellent batting, bowling, and fielding skills throughout the match. This victory will undoubtedly boost their confidence and momentum in the Premier Division competition.
