Terrence Mandramootoo manhandled Richmond Hill Cricket Club’s bowling attack on his way to scoring a Liberty Sports Club record 147 runs at the Baisley Cage last Sunday. The right hander led #TheBlueNation to 290 for 8 batting first. The majestic inning allowed LSC to record a 138 runs victory over RHCC.
On the first day of the season unaffected by rain or overcast conditions the two teams arrived at the Cage to a welcoming, hard, bouncy wicket. RHCC won the toss and took the strategic decision to bowl first with LSC being without their two current leading batsmen Francis Mendonca and Andre Kirton. The decision looked promising when LSC was reduced to 24 for 3 after the 6th over. Openers Anthonio Chan and Javed Shakoor along with number four Trinson Carmichael were the batsmen scalped early. That short session was about the only that went in RHCC’s favor.
Trevor Henry was joined by Terrence Madramootoo and the pair started to build the foundation to the LSC inning. Henry, not being too bothered by the situation, quickly got off the blocks with a six and two fours while Madramootoo was getting himself settled in. The pair combined for a 123 runs partnership spanning 17 overs. Henry hit four boundaries and three maximums to race to his first half century of the season. He would stroke three more boundaries before being caught off the bowling of Shameer Sadloo for 67 with the score on 147.
Playing quietly, by his standard, Madramootoo also got past his half century during the partnership. He hit seven fours and one six for his first half-ton. Following the departure of Henry, however, the commanding power hitter came into his true form. He dominated two small partnerships of 35 and 26 with Clain Williams and Danesh Deonarain respectively. The latter duo contributing 8 of the combined 61 runs in those partnerships.
Madramootoo got past his century with a booming maximum into the neighboring apartment complex. He had racked up 11 fours and 4 sixes to reach the landmark. Boosted by the confidence of his ton the righty further enforced his dominance in the finishing overs. He found a partner in Leon Mohabir to complete demolition job to close the inning.
Mohabir and Madramootoo added a further 76 runs in just 6 overs. Of that partnership the man of the day blasted 4 fours and 4 sixes to race past Trevor Henry’s club record of 144 runs set in 2015. Mohabir, meanwhile kept the attack at the other end cracking a personal best 32 which included three fours and a maximum.
Madramootoo’s inning would come to an end, looking well set to get past the 150 mark, when he was on 147 in the 39th over. He now covets the record for the highest individual inning by a Liberty Sports Club batsman. This knock is his second century for LSC. His first was another record knock to earn the highest individual total in a chase. That was just 10 months ago when he hammered 137 not out to spearhead a 292 runs chase against Big Apple Sports Club at the same venue.
Bowling for RHCC skipper Shameer Sadloo along with Carlos Bachu and Deryck McDonald picked up two wickets each while Sean Thompson and Troy Harper got 1 each. The boys in blue completed their inning at 290 for 8 setting RHCC an imposing 291.
Jamiel Jackmand and Carmichael picked up the attack for LSC and quickly pegged back the chase with three early wickets. Imran Ali offered some resistance, hitting some lusty blows in his 42 runs stay at the crease. Mohabir joined the attack and immediately get into the action, striking with his fourth ball.
Skipper Sadloo 37 and Devraj Chuniall 20 were the only two other RHCC batsmen to get past double figures. Mohabir would pick up 2 more wickets to lead the LSC attack with figures of 3 wickets for 36 runs off 8 overs. Jamiel Jackman 2 wickets, and a scalp each for Orlando Kirton, Carmichael, Henry and Madramootoo rounded off the LSC bowling. RHCC’s inning ended on 152 for 9 with one player not batting due to injury.
LSC remain undefeated in the EACA 40-Over A Division with their next opponent being Atlantis CC-NY at Heckscher. RHCC, meanwhile will be in action again at the cage taking on Big Apple CC this Sunday.
