NYNCL Saturday 30 Overs 2022: Richmond Hill Liberty won by 219 Runs

Richmond Hill Liberty Club 219/9 (Naresh Rambharos 44, Tegana Mc Kenzie 44, Dino Chooweenam 36 & Vedeshpaul Singh 32) beat Team United Fighters by 219 runs

The openers Naresh Rambharos (44 off 34) and Dino Chooweenam (36 off 18) provided a solid start to the side by scoring at a hefty rate. The team’s run rate saw a decline once the opening pair departed leaving RHL in a state of dismay. At the end of the 16th over the batting side was 6 down with just 115 on the board. RHL side made a thumping comeback courtesy of a solid 8th partnership between Tegana Mc Kenzie (44 off 42) and Vedeshpaul Singh (32 off 27) who accumulated 81 runs lifting the team cause. RHL ended with  219 for 9 in their 30 overs providing enough for the bowlers to defend.

In return Team United Fighters was handed a one-over penalty for their slow over-rate while bowling which meant that they had to chase the total in 29 overs. As a protest, they didn’t come to bat and umpires announced RHL as the victorious side.

RHL posted 271 after electing to bat first against Meten Meer Zorg CC in Sunday’s clash. RHL faced a tough time upfront as 4 out of their 5 top-order batters failed to enter the double-figure mark. Despite a handy partnership of 56 runs between Keron Sewnarine (36 off 30) and Trevor Henry (35 off 50 ), RHL still found themselves in hot waters at halfway stage with 120 for 7. In the latter half of the innings, Tegana Mc Kenzie and Jamiel Jackman rose to the occasion with blistering half-centuries to negate the threat posed by the bowling side. Tegana finished with 52 in 41 deliveries in the second-to-last over of their innings. Jamiel Jackman kept things going and would finish not out on his highest individual score of 64. His knock included 3 fours and 3 sixes and featured in a 99 runs 9th wicket partnership with McKenzie and a 29 runs 10th wicket partnership with Raghubir.

In return, Meten Meer Zorg was off to a flyer before Altaf Habibulla struck in the third over to dismiss Keith Edie for 9 runs. RHL side continued to pick wickets at regular intervals to put breaks on the opposition side’s chase. A well-fought collective bowling effort ensured the game within the hands of RHL as they restricted Meten Meer Zorg CC 9 runs shy of victory till the last over. In the process, Samuel Raghubir picked 2 for 34 while the batting innings savior Jamiel Jackman grasped 2 for 56 in his 8 overs. Bisram and Henry were also able to pick a wicket each.

Altaaf Habibulla was asked to defend the daunting task of 8 runs in the last over and what followed was a fine display of bowling and mental skills because within four deliveries the match was done and dusted. W, 1, W, W was offered by Habibulla, complemented by some smart catches, none better than Vedeshpaul Singh’s blinder at short third man to end the match. The chasing side was all out for 264 in 39.4 overs. RHL eventually won the match by 7 runs taking them to number 4 rank on the points table

Jamiel Jackman was awarded for his brilliant display of cricketing skills both with the bat and ball, which rescued his side from deep trouble.
