Chandrapaul Hemraj, Vedeshpaul Singh, on Saturday, and Latchman Bisram, on Sunday, hit half-centuries for Richmond Hill Liberty as the team secured wins in week 13 of the New York National League Saturday and Sunday Premier competitions. On Saturday the team notched a comprehensive win against MMZCC NY while on Sunday it was a whole lot closer against Majestic CC.
ON SATURDAY: RHL vs Meten Meer Zorg CC
Richmond Hill Liberty CC delivered a commanding performance, securing a convincing victory by 177 runs over Meten Meer Zorg CC in the NYNCL Rockaway Premier Division Saturday 2023 league match on August 5, 2023.
Opting to bat first, Richmond Hill Liberty CC set a formidable target with Chandrapaul Hemraj leading the charge with a blistering knock of 93 runs off just 47 balls. His innings was packed with 7 boundaries and an astounding 8 sixes, providing the foundation for a substantial total. Vedeshpaul Sing’s 30-ball, half-century and Richard Allen (33) contributed significantly to the team’s total of 280 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 30 overs.
Meten Meer Zorg CC struggled to contain Richmond Hill Liberty’s batting onslaught. Safwan Ahmed was the most successful bowler for Meten Meer Zorg CC, claiming 4 wickets for 30 runs. However, the team conceded a significant number of wides (15), which added to Richmond Hill Liberty’s score.
In response, Meten Meer Zorg CC faced an early setback as the opening batsmen fell without making an impact. None of the batsmen could establish a solid partnership, and the team faced consistent pressure from Richmond Hill Liberty CC’s bowlers. Andrew Tomby’s exceptional bowling performance was the highlight, as he claimed 3 crucial wickets for just 22 runs. He was supported by two wickets each for Chandrapaul Hemraj, Altaaf Habibulla, and Vedeshpaul Singh.
Meten Meer Zorg CC’s innings came to a close at 103 runs for the loss of all 10 wickets in 18.2 overs. None of the batsmen managed to build a substantial inning against Richmond Hill Liberty CC’s disciplined bowling attack.

ON SUNDAY: Majestic CC vs RHL
Richmond Hill Liberty CC emerged victorious in a nail-biting encounter against Majestic CC in the New York National League Sunday Premier match held on August 6, 2023. Richmond Hill Liberty CC managed to secure the win by a narrow margin of just 3 runs.
After being sent in to bat, Latchman Bisram led the Richmond Hill Liberty CC’s charge with an impressive knock of 68 runs off 100 balls, laying a solid foundation for the team’s innings. Contributions from Surendra Ramcharitar (30) and Altaaf Habibulla (26) along with a lusty 30 off 20 balls by captain Keron Sewnarine helped Richmond Hill Liberty CC reach a competitive total of 222 runs for 8 wickets in their allotted 40 overs. The batsmen exhibited a mix of patient batting and calculated aggression to build partnerships.
Majestic CC’s bowling attack worked hard to take wickets, with Ansar Khan leading with 2 wickets while there was a wicket each for Derick Narine, Javid Karim, and Rajiv Ivan. However, the 2nd wicket partnership and valuable contributions from the middle order enabled Richmond Hill Liberty CC to set a challenging target.
In response, Majestic CC put up a spirited chase, led by Derick Narine’s impressive half-century (50 runs off 35 balls) and Wasim Haslim’s explosive knock of 55 runs off 37 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes. The two aggressive batsmen partnered for 97 runs of just 54 balls setting the case on autopilot. Jamiel Jackman picked up the attack in the 13th, however, and turned the game on its head scalping both Narine, off of a brilliant catch at short cover by Tegana McKenzie, and Haslim, caught behind.
Following the double strike Richmond Hill Liberty CC’s bowlers managed to keep breaking partnerships at crucial junctures. Keron Sewnarine’s exceptional spell proved to be a game-changer as he claimed 3 wickets, while Jamiel Jackman, Samuel Raghubir, and Leon Mohabir each picked up 2 wickets each.
Majestic CC put up a valiant fight but Richmond Hill Liberty CC kept prodding their way back into the game. With 9 runs left to get in the last 4 overs and three wickets on hand, Majestic CC still had the game in their favor. Raghubir allowed 3 runs in the 37th over and Keron Sewnarine trapped the set batsman, Rickey Loknauth, LBW on the 2nd ball of the 38th over to leave 3 runs needed off 14 balls. Captain Sewnarine finished the 38th over with dot balls. Raghubir then delivered a wicket maiden in the 39th before Sewnarine finished up the job on the first ball of the 40th over. The sight of the on-strike batsman stumps being knocked over by Sewnarine trigger a jubilant celebration in the RHL camp.
Latchman Bisram’s solid performance with both the bat and the ball earned him the Player of the Match title. His crucial contribution in setting up the target and economical bowling played a significant role in Richmond Hill Liberty CC’s victory.
