Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club’s (RHLCC) opening batsman Dino Chooweenam slammed a club record 178 runs in the team’s New York National Cricket League (NYNCL) quarter-final match. Batting at The Cage at Baisley Park Chooweenam led RHLCC to a massive 206 runs win against New York Warriors Cricket Club and securing a spot in the semi-finals. Chooweenam followed up the record knock with an even 50 to further help his team to the Final.
On Sunday, October 4th captain Trevor Henry won the toss and elected to bat first in the NYNCL 30-Over match-up. #TheBlueNation lost Ryan Rajmangal early for 1 in the second over of the match. Alex Amsterdam joined Chooweenam at the crease and the pair steadied up the inning and went on to add 141 runs for the 2nd wicket partnership.
Chooweenam brought up his half-century in the 12th over off 36 balls hitting 1 four and 5 maximums. Amsterdam facilitated the partnership before adding some fireworks of his own. He hit 3 sixes when his inning ended, out caught for 39.
Unaffected by the loss of a wicket the burly opening batsman kept his foot on the gas pushing his inning past the 100 runs mark needing just 27 more balls. When he crossed the three-figure milestone he had racked up 2 fours and 11 maximums. Terrence Madramootoo, who entered at the fall of Amsterdam’s wicket, put on a show of his own. He added 30 off 19 balls in a partnership of 112 runs off just 47 balls.
Chooweenam would push past the 150 runs milestone in what would be his fastest fifty of the match, taking just 15 more balls. He then pushed past the club’s record high score (since the LSC, RHCC merger in 2017) of 166 and eventually ended his inning with 178. Chooweenam’s inning was highlighted with six boundaries and a breathtaking 20 maximums. Trevor Henry, who’s club record Chooweenam surpassed polished off the inning with a brisk 22 to post a final score of 290 for 4 wickets off 30 overs.
The SVC – Sawh Voltcomm sponsored RHLCC made light work of the defense rolling over NYW for 84 in the 21st over. Altaaf Habibulla and Madramootoo were the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets each while there were 2 for Leon Mohabir and 1 each for Neive McNally and Keron Sewnarine.
The boys in blue then took on Galaxy Cricket Club in the semi-final on Sunday, October 11th, and came away with a narrow 12 wicket win to set up a clash with Everest/ACS in the final set for Sunday, October 18th.
