Dino Chooweenam Hammers Destructive Double Ton

Dino Chooweenam hammered 111 off 42 balls and 139 off 56 balls!!

To score a century in a T20 match is an outstanding feat. To score two in back-to-back T20 matches in the same day is simply phenomenal. Phenomenal was exactly what Dino Chooweenam was on Sunday, September 8th for Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club. The imposing opening batsman hammered 111 off 42 balls against Big Apple Cricket Club and bettered it hours later with 139 off 56 balls against Everest/ACS in the Eastern American Cricket Association T20 competition.

RHLCC vs BACC

Starting the day against BACC, RHLCC secured the toss and chose to bat first. It was the Dino and Dominique Rikhi show as the club posted their highest league T20 score of 268 for 5 wickets. The opening pair slammed 168 off 11.4 overs before Rikhi was dismissed for 69 off 40 balls. Chooweenam had earlier raced to his half century off just 18 balls and went on to his century off only 35 balls! His knock of 111 runs off 42 balls was sparked with 6 smashing boundaries and 12 towering maximums.

Terrence Madramootoo sparked a blaze with 40 runs off 15 balls along with Naresh Rambharos & Keifer Phill’s cameos of 17 off 12 balls and 11 off 3 balls respectively carried #TheBlueNation to the club record of 268. Bowling for BACC Mark Gomes picked up 2 wickets while Martin Pestano, Kelvin Leitch and Wahid Ward picked up one wicket each.

In reply the BACC inning got off to a lusty start but quickly lost momentum to get wrapped up at 118 all out. Ward 43 and Pestano 30 were the leading scorers for BACC. Leon Mohabir picked up 3 for 25, while Phill and Madramootoo picked up 2 wickets and Ryan Rajmangal picked up 1. Moien Khan who went wicketless bowled 4 overs 1 maiden for a miserly 9 runs in the defense also.

RHLCC vs Everest/ACS

In th second game of the double-header at the Baisley Cage RHLCC once again had the better of the toss and chose to bat. Once again Dino Chooweenam was the star of a massive 176 runs opening partnership with Dominique Rikhi. Rikhi departed in the 15th over for 30. Before that Chooweenam bettered his earlier fifty by getting to the half-century in just 16 balls. He would go on to get to his century 39 balls, 4 more than his first century of the day. With 8 blazing boundaries and 15 monstrous maximums Chooweenam notches up 139 off 56 balls when he was dismissed.

Once again Terrence Madramootoo (27* runs off 15 balls) and Naresh Rambharos (12 runs off 10 balls) provided some late inning impetus to get RHLCC to 225 for 5 at then end of 20 overs. Bowling for E/ACS Raun Johnson and Deveshwari Persaud picked up two wickets each.

Moien Khan scalped Steve Nowrangilall early in the inning but Wasim Haslim and Anthony Haley stitched together a healthy partnership for E/ACS. Haslim blasted 80 off 40 balls and Haley 46 off 33 balls to set the foundation in the chase. Persaud entered the inning with the fall of Haslim’s wicket and set about in a destruction path. He hit 80 off 26 balls to quickly wrap up the chase with 5 balls to spare.

There was a wicket each for Dominique Rikhi and Keifer Phill along with Khan’s scalp in the chase which saw Everest/ACS win by 7 wickets.

The day belonged to Dino Chooweenam, he became the first RHLCC batsman to score a centruy for the team since the 2017 merger. He now owns the club’s highest individual T20 score and fastest T20 50 and 100. Hitting two T20 centuries in a day may be a feat which will not be surpassed for a very long time in EACA competition. Congratulations to Chooweenam on his phenomenal feat!!
