Dino Chooweenam and Altaaf Habibulla were the top awardees at the Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club (RHLCC) 2020 cricket season presentation ceremony. The SVC LLC sponsored club held its 2020 cricket season awards presentation in a small, private gathering on Saturday, April 10. Chooweenam took home the club’s prestigious most valuable player (MVP) award along with being named the 30-Overs best batsman. Habibulla led the bowling category and was awarded the 30-Overs best bowler trophy along with being honored as the club’s inaugural Academic Excellence Award recipient. National team contender, Dominique Rikhi, was honored with the club’s Cricketing Excellence Award.
RHLCC competed in the New York National Cricket League (NYNCL) in 2020. The club participated with one team each in the 30-Overs Sunday League and the 25-Overs Saturday League. RHLCC (#TheBlueNation) was crowned champions in the Sunday League and finished as a semi-finalist in the Saturday League. All club members participating in both leagues were honored for their contributions in the 2020 season.
Presidential Address
The awards ceremonies commenced with club President, Vickey Khilawan, welcoming the club members and commending them for their dedication and commitment to the club. Along with, Danesh Deonarain, the duo shared with the attendees about the club’s background and some plans for the 2021 season. Additionally, the club corporate supporters were thanked for their contributions. These included SVC LLC (Sureain Sawh), Century 21 Professional Realty of Rockaway and 117th Street (Aniel Balkumar & Neal Khoorchand), Rockaway Group of Companies (Mr. Rockaway Ali), B&R Sheet Metal Corp., www.CricketHelmetCovers.com, and www.EBtaxsolutions.com. Additionally, the NYNCL administration was acknowledged for its administration of cricket in the New York area.
Liberty Sports Club Excellence Award
A noted addition to the club awards this year is the Liberty Sports Club. (LSC) Excellence Awards. Altaaf Habibulla was presented with the Academic Excellence Award which honors an outstanding club member for their academic pursuit along with exceptional cricketing performance. Habibulla has been working towards a bachelor’s degree while leading the club’s all-around performance on the field. Dominique Rikhi was presented with the Cricketing Excellence Award which honors extraordinary cricketing feats within and outside of the club. Rikhi has been steadily moving up the ranks of USA cricket having been named as the East Division’s best batter in USA Cricket’s 2020 Minor League and also being short-listed in the squad for USA Men’s National Training Camp.

Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club will again compete in the NYNCL Saturday and Sunday league in 2021. The club is currently participating in pre-season preparations leading up to the official league action in the month of May.
