A disappointing week for Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club as the side lost both their Saturday and Sunday tournament games. On Saturday Altaf Habibulla’s gritty half-century (50) and Renwick Batson’s heroics with the ball (4-35) went in vain as the side had to taste an unexpected defeat while chasing an easy target. In the 40 overs competition, the side failed to defend 247 after Mohindra Boodram and Latchman Bisram scored 90 and 64 respectively.
NYNCL Saturday 30 Overs 2022.
Richmond Hill Liberty Club 157/10 (Altaaf Habibulla 50) LOST to Cricket Boss XI 174/9 (Renwick Batson 4-35) by 17 Runs
RHL bowlers put up a good show after they were asked to bowl first by the Cricket Boss XI side. Once the threatening opening partnership was broken by Renwick Batson in the 10th over they didn’t allow the batters to settle and score freely. Moving forward in a span of 6 overs, Boss XI went from 62 for 1 to 82 for 4. Although the fifth wicket accumulated 50 runs in the next 8 overs it still did not threaten in terms of scoring run-rate and any hope Cricket Boss XI had of reaching a huge total was destroyed by Baston’s double-wicket 25th over. They finished with 174 for 9 in 30 overs. Renwick Batson finished with 4 for 35 while Keron Sewnarine also picked 2 wickets against 41 runs.
Chasing 175 RHL had a shaky start, the openers fell quickly and soon found themselves in deep waters. At halfway stage of their innings, they had lost half a side for just 70 runs but with the required run rate of almost 7, they still had a good chance of reaching their target. Altaaf Habibulla firmly stood his ground while wickets continued to fall from the other end. Together with Keron Sewnarine, he scored some valuable runs and steadied the chase with a forty-eight-run stand for the sixth wicket. Sewnarine fell for 21 and no one else helped Habibulla, the side was eventually bowled out for 157 in 28.5 overs. Altaaf Habibulla was the final to be dismissed but not before scoring a tenacious half-century for his team.

Richmond Hill Liberty Club Richmond Hill Liberty 247/7 (Mohindra Boodram 90, Latchman Bisram 64) LOST to Phoenix Cricket Club (Latchman Bisram 2-54) by 6 Wickets
The RHL openers made a strong statement with their skillful batting after the side won the toss and decided to bat first against Phoenix Cricket Club. Half-centuries upfront by Latchman Bisram and Mohindra Boodram hinted an enormous total for the side. They galloped to a century stand in 13 overs with major contributions coming from the bat of Bisram. He walloped a rapid 64 off 47 deliveries before departing in the fourteenth over. The following batters could not capitalize on the start provided to them and left the crease without troubling the scorers. Mohindra Boodram on the other hand continued to pile up runs from the other end scoring 90 off 121. A couple of decent performances from the late middle order helped the RHL side to post 247 for 7 in their 40 overs.
In reply, RHL bowlers failed to defend the total, and the Phoenix side cruised to victory in no time. Asaad Fudadin led the chase for PCC with an unbeaten 76. He was well supported by Yutesh Dhanpaul 54 and Andre Kirton 51. The only notable bowling performance was Latchman Bisram’s 2 wickets for 53 in his 8 overs. Plenty to take away in terms of individual performances despite a crushing defeat for the Richmond Hill Liberty side
