About

Liberty Sports Club (LSC) started off in early 2010 as Liberty Cricket Club with the current President Takauth Khilawan, Vice President, Danesh Deonarain, and Operations Director, Dilly Khilawan putting together a cricket team to compete in the Eastern American Cricket Association (EACA).  The team attracted many young players and with the financial assistance of two sponsors, it performed well enough to play in the Second Division final in the league.

Since its inception, the idea of organizing a group to manage the team was proposed and that gave birth to Liberty Sports Club. Along with the idea came the vision statement and the recruitment of capable individuals to effectively execute the Club’s goals. The Board of Directors was assembled in January 2011.

Liberty Sports Club, a registered New York State Non-Profit Organization, manages the cricket team Liberty Cricket Club. The Board of Directors is responsible for Planning, Operation, Financial Management, and Sponsorship Accusation.

Annually LSC organizes three major activities; a presentation awards ceremony to recognize the achievements of its members, a summer backyard Bar-B-Q and various volunteering events and community activities.

The cricket team competes in both the T20 and Power40 competitions in the EACA. After being competitive for the 1st three years #TheBlueNation finally found some marked success in 2013 when they made it for the first time to the semi-final of the T20 Blitz competition. This was followed up in 2014 with a first-ever appearance in the Power40 Big4. The 40-over semi-final appearance in 2014 was followed up by a second appearance in the T20 Blitz semi-final.

Continued improvement saw the team winning its first league championships in the EACA under the captaincy of Danesh Deonarain. A Power40 Championship Win in 2015 and T20 Blitz championship win in 2016 were the club’s early notable on-field success.

In 2017 Liberty Sports Club merged with legendary New York City’s Richmond Hill Cricket to form a consolidated cricket unit, Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club. Despite making it deep into the playoffs in 2017 and 2018 the team could not secure another competition.

In 2019 the club extended play into the New York National Cricket League’s Saturday tournament to creating more opportunities for its young members to be involved in sporting activities. Tegana Mckenzie led RHLCC to the Saturday League championship that year. A few weeks later Dominique Rikhi led RHLCC to the EACA T20 blitz T20 title.

Trevor Henry took over the Sunday team leadership in 2020 when RHLCC joined the New York National Cricket League in its first Sunday league competition. Henry was successful in his first year leading the team to a championship. McKenzie again led the Saturday squad to a Saturday title in 2021.

Through all the happenings on the field, the club continues to provide mentorship and guidance to young men within the community beyond its membership reach.
